Almost everyone has a friend or family member that has taken a swing at being an entrepreneur. The obvious first thing that comes to mind is buying their product or service. Of course, that would only be one customer, maybe only one time. What if you don’t need that product or service?
- Social media has become a vital part of any marketing campaign for any business regardless of the size. It costs nothing to like, follow, and share the business page and posts. Continued engagement from the entire family can give the business the boost it needs.
- Volunteering your time by showing up at events hosted by the business owner would be helpful. Helping with tasks like answering phones, running errands, or other odd jobs such as helping paint the office if needed. You can help with whatever needs to be done.
- A little encouragement can go a long way. Being an entrepreneur is not for the weak of heart or the lazy. Not only encouragement but being that sounding board for ideas. Sometimes, speaking of an idea gives it structure. It can also bring it to life.
- Maybe you are not in the market for your family members services or products but you know someone who is. Referring possible clients is the best way to help your friend grow their business.
- A good review for your friend can help a lot and takes very little time. Even if you haven’t actually purchased anything, you can attest to their character, reliability, trustworthiness…etc.
There are a couple caveats. If your friend is bad at business or is a scammer, maybe continue with encouragement and guidance. But, if they are in it for all the wrong reasons, quietly not participating is the best course of action.
It can be difficult to support a business owner if you don’t need their services. However, you have someone in your network who does. Every little bit helps, especially at the beginning. Am I missing anything? Reach out and if it sounds legit, it will get added.
